Biography:

According to a pension statement dated May 9, 1833, in 1778 al the age of 15 Simon enlisted as a private in the North Carolina Militia under the command of Colonel John Williams. He fought in the Battle of Brier Cheek in Georgia after which he was discharged at Black Swamp near the Savannah River in South Carolina sometime in 1779.

Later in 1779 Simon reenlisted and served under the command of Colonel Richard Caswell in Captain Austin Spain's company, where he fought in the Battle of Camden in South Carolina after which he was again discharged.

Simon reenlisted in 1780 or 1781 serving in Captain Kennedy's company where he participated in the Battle at Guilford Courthouse.
